New sequential switch and granular processor modules, an autowah firmware, and three free plugins

Or: no really, we have actually been busy making things for you.

We have had people asking us about a NE take on a granular module for ages...and while we will neither confirm nor deny whether this is the only one in the works, we’re happy to release it.  Also this month, our long-awaited sequential switch, a second Versio firmware, Lacrima, and our beta plugin freequel bundle (Ruina, Sinc Vereor, and Virt Vereor) grows up and loses the beta tag. The modules are available now, the firmware is available now as well, and all the plugins are also available to use now. Let’s explore all the new things.

The modules

We’ve got two new hardware modules for you Eurorack folks. As mentioned, these are available to preorder now. And even better, they’re shipping now!

Melotus Versio

Melotus Versio is the newest member of the Versio family. It’s a granular processor designed to have a mind of its own: patch in some sounds, adjust the params to taste, and it’ll create something beautiful (or scary, if you ask it nicely).

Melotus Versio gives you control over the length of grains, how randomly the grains are triggered, and some unique ways to filter and process the grains as they’re being played. Plus, there’re a variety of hold options that can be triggered by hand or with the gate input, and the held grains can be manipulated further with the panel controls or with CV.

Melotus Versio is available as a standalone module, and the Melotus Versio firmware is also available to download for all Versio owners from the Customer Portal.

Vice Virga

Vice Virga is an 8-input, 8-output sequential/addressable switch with a plethora of features and extensive patchability. Vice Virga can be configured as a single 8-channel switch, two 4-channel switches, or four 2-channel switches with the flip of a...um...switch. Equal parts automated patch arranger and performance tool, Vice Virga has loads of switching-control options. Whether you want to chain sequencers, swap outputs on an oscillator, remix a trigger pattern, or mix up every connection in a patch just to see what happens, Vice Virga can do it!

We designed Vice Virga with the intention of taking a traditional concept in an interesting and new direction, while still retaining all the core features you’d expect. VV has randomization modes, multiple playback directions, and quite a few ways of advancing and changing connections. For example, if you just want a one in, two out switch that advances steadily each clock pulse, it can do that. But you could also run 8 CV signals through it and randomize them each time a sequence resets.

We’ll do deep-dive posts on these in the coming weeks, so if you’re itching for more information, we’ve got you covered.

The firmware: Lacrima Versio

Of course, we couldn’t stop at just one new Versio, so we made Lacrima, too! Lacrima is a stereo autowah with envelope controls and resonance settings, but it goes way beyond that, too. Smoothly morph between a lowpass, a bandpass, or a highpass filter, or anything in between. Adjustable envelope following and resonance that can feedback and FM the filter creates a lot of not-so-traditional wah sounds. And that’s not including the distortion, because of course we added distortion!

Lacrima Versio is available to download completely free to Versio owners, as always, from the Customer Portal. Try it out today! Need a panel? Give your Versio an easy-to-change outfit with a Lacrima overlay from Winterbloom.

Now, let's hear what Lacrima can do:

The plugins

We’ve been hard at work making a trio of VST3/AU/AAX plugins -- you may have seen our previous post announcing our beta test. Thanks to our testers, we’re now ready to release them to the world. Best of all? These first three are completely free!

All three are available to install now. Just head over to the Customer Portal, create an account, and follow the installation instructions in the Plugins tab.

Customer Portal

Ruina

The Ruina Versio plugin.

Ruina is a creative stereo distortion plugin built on digital distortion algorithms: no emulations here. Intuitive and fully automatable controls make it easy to get a gentle, nuanced color, to obliviate a signal, or to dial in anything in between. Don’t feel like tweaking the parameters? Ruina comes with tons of presets to fit any need.

Ruina has a wavefolder, a multiband saturator, a chaotic suboctave generator, an octavizer, and a phase shifter. It also features a notch or bandpass filter with adjustable tracking, and a control to set the order of the distortions in the signal flow to further customize your sound. Last but not least, Overdrive adds up to 128x gain for maximal destruction.

Run any sound through Ruina for warm, lush distortion, or crank the sliders to unleash complete destruction. With seven distortion types, it’s easy to turn your sounds into something new and unique with Ruina.

Virt Vereor

Virt Vereor plugin.

Virt Vereor is a powerful synthesizer based on a unique set of synthesis algorithms from quadrature to supersaw to additive. Virt Vereor makes a tremendous amount of unique sounds with an immediate and usable interface.

Virt Vereor comes with our easily manipulated dynamics section: an ADSR envelope controlling a variable slope and analog-inspired multimode gate/filter plus a vintage-inspired chorus. Sprinkle in a load of presets, and Virt Vereor has something for everyone.

Sinc Vereor

Sinc Vereor plugin.

Loosely based on our beloved Eurorack module Sinc Iter, Sinc Vereor makes sound design a snap. Three modes provide simple waveforms, phase-offset oscillators, or self-similar noise.

Just like Virt Vereor, we’ve paired this oscillator section with an ADSR envelope controlling a multimode gate/filter with a chorus. And Sinc Vereor also comes with a huge library of presets. With its easy-to-use controls, Sinc Vereor will astound with its versatility.

Plugin Update Roadmap

While these three plugins are fully functional, we’re not done: along with having quite a few other plugins in the works (coming soon!), we also have features that we want to add to these three free plugins, too.

Our first big update is going to add a modulation matrix including LFOs. In addition, even more advanced MIDI mapping, and some other functionality is in the works now, and will unlock even more potential for the instruments and effects. That update will launch alongside our next bundle of paid plugins, so stay tuned for even more virtual awesomeness.

Want to know if there's an update?

If there's an update available for your plugins, an update button will appear in the Help section of the interface. Clicking it will take you to our website to do an update. We'll also announce feature updates via our newsletter.
